The global smart and sustainable United Cities program has chosen Scottsdale, Arizona, as the location for its North American headquarters.
The United Cities North America (UCNA) headquarters will house the organization’s Innovation Hub (I-Hub), whose role is to foster connections between companies, entrepreneurs, capital, partners, local government, academia and other stakeholders to build a robust, economically viable ecosystem for use by the community, the region, and the world.
Aligning with SDG 11
United Cities’ mission is to create sustainable and net-zero, smart cities and communities. It operates in partnership with several UN agencies and international organizations and its work aligns with the aims of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 11 to make cities inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.
Asset manager and fund sponsor Caliber will be the master developer of the UCNA site with development beginning this quarter. This role includes research, site selection and compiling the development team to execute the project. Together, Caliber and UCNA have also opened a new United Cities Qualified Opportunity Zone fund.
“Caliber and United Cities North America’s partnership comes at a perfect time as we strive for a cleaner, more sustainable world,” said Chris Camacho, president and CEO of the Greater Phoenix Economic Council.
“The growth Greater Phoenix is seeing in advanced sustainability technology is remarkable and the collaboration born out of innovation is driving us to be a leader on the global stage.”
